Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the wedding ceremony and reception? Both the ceremony and reception will be held at Auberge du Soleil in Rutherford, California. To reach Auberge du Soleil, see the directions at the bottom of this page.

How far away are the airports from Rutherford?
San Francisco International: 2 hours, Oakland: 11⁄2 hours, Sacramento: 11⁄2 hours. Small aircraft may land at Napa: 30 minutes. Allow extra time during rush hour, particularly on Friday afternoons. There is also commercial traffic into Sonoma County Airport (STS) on Horizon Airlines from Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Portland, and Seattle.

How can I get to Napa without hiring a car? There is a pleasant bus line called Evans Airport Service that provides a shuttle between Napa and the SFO and OAK airports. Ask your hotel’s concierge to assist with your booking, or contact Evans directly at Evans Transportation. You may need to take a taxi to their point of departure, as we do not believe they provide “door to door” service.

How do I arrange a taxi or limousine for the night so I don’t drink and drive? California has a zero tolerance for DUI, and the California Highway Patrol pays careful attention in the Valley given the propensity of drinking guests who travel from winery to winery. Please do not drink and drive. There are several transportation services available.

As locals, we have not used them. Names we see often include:

Napa Valley Cab
1168 Jordon Lane, Napa
707-257-6444 or 800-640-8885

Prestige Limousine
tel. +1 925.691.7000

Napa, CA 94558

Bauer's Limousine & Worldwide Transportation
tel. +1 800-LIMO-OUT
Napa, CA

Are there rental car companies in Napa?
Yes, all of the national rental car companies have offices in Napa. Note that the local offices are usually closed on Sundays. Only the airport locations tend to be open on Sundays.

What is Napa’s weather in June? Mornings and evenings can be cool, though daytime highs can exceed the 80’s. We recommend layering. During the day, short sleeves are a must. After sunset, one may want a sweater. In the mornings it can be foggy, but raincoats are generally not needed. Sunscreen and wide-brim hats are a must during the day. Click here for average weather information for June.

What is Auberge’s policy on children? Auberge is designed for adults seeking a tranquil atmosphere and, therefore, unsuitable for children under 16. For a list of all of Auberge FAQ, click here.

Can I bring a child or pet to the wedding?
Unfortunately, the fire marshal (and thus we) has very strict limits on how many people may occupy the venue for the wedding at Auberge. We are very sorry that pets and children cannot be accommodated at the wedding or reception. If you are interested in hiring a sitter, please contact Auberge du Soleil for information.

Where is the wedding couple registered? Yes, on-line registries can be found at Gumps, Williams-Sonoma, Scheuer Linens & Tiffany.

What time does the ceremony begin?
Because Jewish tradition prohibits wedding vows on Shabbat, the ceremony must conclude before sunset. To respect this tradition, the ceremony will begin at 6pm sharp.

Is there a vegetarian option for dinner? Yes, please let us know that immediately. To ensure that you get your steak-free plate, mention your vegetarian request to your server after taking your seat at dinner.

What is the attire at the reception?
Black tie.

Do I need to wear or bring anything in particular to a Jewish wedding? No, there is not. Men often wear a kippah, or skullcap, during the ceremony. It is not required.

How long does a Jewish wedding ceremony usually last? What is the ritual?
Jewish weddings exemplify brevity: 20-30 minutes usually. The ceremony involves two parts - the Betrothal and the Wedding. Each is accompanied by blessings and by drinking wine, which symbolizes joy. Originally the two parts were carried out at different times on different days, but due to unsettled conditions during the Middle Ages, the two ceremonies were merged into one. The entire ceremony flows as follows: The Bridal Procession, The Blessings of Betrothal, The Seven Blessings, Breaking of the Glass, The Ketubah, and then the Reception.

Will the ceremony be indoors or outdoors? The ceremony will be outdoors. Because of limited space and short ceremony, there won’t be chairs for everyone, so arrive early if you require a seat. Wine and hors d' oeuvres before dinner will also be outside. Dinner will be served inside, with air conditioning.

What if there is rain/inclement weather?
In the event of foul weather, the ceremony will be indoors, generally in the same area of the resort. It is very unlikely that there will be rain.

While dining in the Napa Valley, can we “walk in” to well known restaurants, or should we have reservations?
Reservations are always a good idea, especially in the summertime. Late lunch reservations, say at 2PM, are usually easy to arrange. Dinner can be very difficult to book at the last minute, so call early.

What are common attractions in the Naps Valley that I might not know about?
The Napa Valley Wine Train is an opportunity to enjoy food and wine, together with a winding view of the Valley floor. On weekends, wake up at sunrise and enjoy a hot air balloon ride. It’s an amazing way to see the Napa Valley. And if you can’t take the trip, sneak a peak of them all hovering above the Valley floor just after sunrise. Visit Copia, The American Center for Wine, Food & the Arts. Copia explores the wine culture, highlighting American innovations and investigating a distinctive approach to food and drink. Enjoy the Center's lively programs, classes, exhibitions, and demonstrations. The Culinary Institute of America offers restaurants, retail stores, and public tours. See the world's best culinary education.
